I have also been careful with eponymous people: there are two different Gene Kellys, two Julie Andrewses, two (possibly three) different Brian Mays, and two Colin Davises mentioned here, for example. Most links take you to cross-references unless the main artist name. An addition sign (+) indicates that the main artist (or at least one band member) has composed some of the content. Parenthetical names are composer credits. When a composer conducts his or her own work, I don’t restate the name. I try to credit every singer and musician possible (but not the entire staff), but I’m not always disciplined enough to type it all out, or the information isn’t on the printed materials. A indicates that I have the album on CD in addition to another format. The symbol indicates vinyl, and indicates PRE-RECORDED cassette. A parenthetical asterisk ((*)), indicates copies for sale. Classical albums by one composer are usually under the composer’s name, but some exceptions have been made with star conductors/performers, who are always treated as the primary artist when performing works by multiple composers. Compilations (including soundtracks without an original score or featured songwriter) are under the name of a compiler/producer, or by title or company if no person or persons are clearly credited. Opera, musical theatre, and soundtracks are under the composer’s last name. (I inherited all my parents’ records, but they’re in storage, so not listed.)Īlbums are listed alphabetically by artist, and chronologically within the artist’s section (based on when originally recorded/released–not composed).
